Group Project: Presentation
- Due Aug 14, 2014 by 10am
- Points 17
- Submitting a file upload
This is a chance for you to research an geologic topic of particular interest to you with your Field Trip Groups, and present your research to the class.
Group Planning
- You must select and have your topic approved by the due date (3 weeks ahead of presentation).
- You will collaborate on the project with your Field Trip Group. You should already be part of a Group, but use People > Groups tool in Canvas to sign up for a group if you haven't already.
- Every group will be able to plan their project in the Groups area by discussion, scheduling Calendar events, file sharing, wiki page creation, even video conferencing and G Doc collaborations. (See the Canvas Student Guides on Groups.)
- Group members must decide among themselves how to split up responsibility for the work, including the presentation itself.
Presentation Instructions
Before your presentation, your group must submit here...
- A 1 or 2 page typed summary of your project, with the names of all team members and a short summary of their contributions to the project.
- A bibliography, listing all the specific resources that your team used.
- A digital version of any visual aids used (see below).
- One multiple choice test questions, pertinent to your presentation (you will try out your question at the end of the presentation).
Your presentation...
- can be no longer than ten minutes. Trust me, this is a very short time! Your team must be very well organized to make optimal use of such a short time.
- should be informative, interesting, and well presented.
- will be given the 2-3 days of class. Time slots will be assigned by lottery in class.
Visual Aids
Use these during your presentation, but submit a digital copy here ahead of time.
Visuals are essential for an interesting presentation. Consider the following:
- Overhead transparencies. Old school, but great for when technology fails you!
- Posters. Make sure you keep each poster simple, illustrating only a few points, with large enough writing or graphics to be seen from the back of the room.
- Demonstrations or models. Be creative, BUT remember you only have 10 minutes.
- Slide Presentations. Should complement your presentation, not own it. Don't put your script on your slides; use less text than you think you need.
No matter what you use, you must submit a digital version of your visual aids here (e.g. original file for transparencies, PowerPoint or Keynote file, graphics or a photo of a poster, photo or video of demonstrations or models).
Grading
See rubric below. In addition to instructor feedback, the team will be graded as a whole unless it is made clear that some team members did not participate fully.
