Why Does Abuse Happen?

When we think about the reasons that abuse happens we need to consider the following factors:

 

  • Adults most at risk – why are some people more likely to be abuse than others?
  • Setting – does being in care home or a domestic setting make it more likely for some types of abuse
  • Context – is the person socially isolated, relationships involving power, dependency
  • People who may abuse – who are they, what pressures make them abuse?

Use your textbook and research to make a mindmap of the factors which may lead to abusive situations.

Task 5

Working in pairs, use the Collaborations feature within Canvas to complete the Download Barriers to Reporting Abuse Learning activity

.

 

In order to set up the Collaborations Activity please follow the steps below:

  1. Select Collaborations in the left menu
  2. Choose Collaborate Using: Google Docs
  3. Set the Document Name and Description
  4. Select your partner from the list of students in the group
  5. Hit Start Collaborating in the bottom right hand corner and your Google Doc will open
  6. Once completed share the Google doc with your classmates and teacher
